The Blue Earth

Yves Klein
1957
Height: 35 cm
Blue pigment on plaster

In 1957, Klein created a sculpture by dipping a plastic globe in a bath filled with the colour ‘International Klein Blue’ (IKB). This sculpture symbolises the painter’s premonition « the Earth is blue », which he uttered shortly before the famous astronaut Youri Gagarine. The Earth is a recurring motif in Yves Klein’s work. Yves Klein’s monogram in the form of a star is engraved on the base. Numbered on the base: 58 / 300.
