Mestrovic is a heroic key figure of national art in the previous Serbian, Croatian and Slovenian Kingdom. He was one of Rodin students and was trained at the Viennese School of Fine Arts. He carried out monumental commissions from Zagreb to Chicago. In 1931 he designed with the architects Harold Bilinic and Lavoslav Horvat a neoclassical villa in Split, decorated with mythological figures. Woman with arp is the wood version of one of the panels decorating the ionic portico of this villa.
