Galerie Lucas Ratton

Lucas Ratton, Parisian tribal art dealer, is the heir to a family tradition. His grandfather Maurice and his great uncle Charles Ratton were both close to 1920’s avant-garde artists from the surrealist André Breton, to the great poet and art theoricien Guillaume Apollinaire, but also the genial leader of cubism Pablo Picasso, and Maurice de Vlaminck or André Derain. They were pioneers of the African art market, and presented choice historical objects in their galleries, a level of demand perpetuated in his gallery by Lucas’s father, Philippe, and passed down on Lucas.

Today, Lucas has made a name for himself in the limited circle of French tribal art experts and African art worldwide market, partly due to his participations in international fairs and his great engagement in the promotion of tribal arts, with a desire to continue the family legacy of confrontation and dialogues between extra-European arts and modern and contemporary arts and of collaboration with artists or museum to defend and present African art as a part of the world Art History legacy.
