Antonio Saura’s pictorial, graphic and even literary work is one of the most passionate corpus of Spanish 20th century art. Saura’s artwork evolves from initial surrealism to abstract art. In 1957, he became the leading theoretician of informalism in Spain with the founding of El Paso group. The artists who formed El Paso opened a new chapter in the history of Spanish art: a free avant-garde was born after two decades of creative silence.

His extended production includes the series Crucifixions, History of Spain, Crowds and Imaginary Portraits.
