FRAGMENT OF AN ARM FROM A LIVE SIZE STATUE

Egypt, Middle Kingdom
XIIth Dynasty, ca. 1991 – 1800 BC
Length: 35.6 cm – Width: 10.2 cm
Wood

A hand-carved wooden arm and grasping hand from a larger statue, with one end terminating in a tenon joint. Fine details of the fingers and the overall shape reveal this to be a naturalistic style, presumably based on a real model.
There are the remains of a light pigment still on the wood.
